Hawaii Beat

By Star-Bulletin Staff

UH caught by perfect game

Sheri Oronoz pitched very well last night against Oregon State.

But Monica Hoffman was perfect, retiring all 21 batters to lead the Beavers past the Wahine 1-0 in the Malihini Tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Loyola Marymount beat Hawaii 2-1 earlier in the day.

Hoffman struck out five batters, induced 15 infield ground outs and got one foul pop.

Oregon State scored an unearned run in the second inning, on an error by shortstop Kate Judd.

Oronoz (9-5) gave up six hits in six innings and walked two.

The Lions scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Wahine.

Corianne Rogalsky led off with a home run against starter Melissa Coogan (5-5). After two singles Oronoz relieved Coogan. Two batters later UH caught a LMU runner between third and home for the second out of the inning, but the winning run scored on a fielding error by Judd.

Hawaii fell to 15-12.
