Works on paper make
rare academy display

You don't need to fly to the mainland to see works by American masters Mary Cassatt or Winslow Homer. They are right here at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. "Pen, Pencil, and Brush: American Drawings and Watercolors, 1850-1950" offers island art lovers a rare opportunity to view selections from the museum's holdings of works on paper. For conservation purposes, these treasures make only brief and infrequent appearances outside of the vault. The exhibit, including a recently acquired pastel work by Cassatt shown for the first time, is on view in the Graphic Arts Gallery through March 17. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Call 532-8700 for more information.
