Funds raised at the Friends of Waiamanlo Carnival 2002 this weekend will benefit the youth of Waimanalo.

Waimanalo carnival fun

The Friends of Waimanalo Carnival 2002 continues today and Sunday at Waimanalo Beach Park with EK Fernandez rides and games, food booths and plenty of evening entertainment.

The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to midnight today and 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Entertainment begins at 4 p.m. today with 41 Dash, followed by the Ka'ala Boys at 6 p.m., the Opihi Pickers at 8 p.m., and Sean Na'auao at 10 p.m.

Koa'uka will perform from 1 p.m. tomorrow, when a $15 wrist band will score unlimited rides for wearers. Be sure to take a spin on the Ferris Wheel for a spectacular view of the ocean and Koolaus.

Admission to the carnival itself is free.

The annual carnival is one of the few remaining community-based carnivals on the island, involving participation of Waimanalo senior citizen, school, canoe club, teen, halau and other groups.

Community kupuna will sell homemade goodies, crafts and plants.

Funds raised will benefit the youth of Waimanalo. Past funds and grants have helped to support the Waimanalo Library, Waimanalo and Pope elementary Schools, Reading is Fundamental program, and Waimanalo Park and Recreation, and after-school programs.
