Frozen out by ice
skating contest

It was a long, long drive home, and so I called a friend to chat.

"No!" she shrieked. "I gotta go! Ice skating is on!"

And so I called another friend. Her message machine responded with the information that she absolutely would not answer the phone until the Olympic ice-skating competition was over.

I even called home. One of the daughters informed me that Mom and Sister and she were too busy watching ice skating to chat.

I called another friend. "What's going on?" I asked him.

"The wife and daughter are watching ice skating," he said. "Me, I'm sitting by myself at the kitchen table eating ice cream, trying to induce brain freeze. What do you want to talk about?"

"Oh, I don't know," I said. "How about ice skating?"
