Honolulu police said Mark Mehr lived off of life support for more than a week before he finally died after being assaulted in Wahiawa on Feb. 11.

The 43-year-old construction worker was a husband and father who got involved in an argument that led to his death, police said.

"He was driving home, and apparently someone yelled something at him, and he stopped to confront the guy," said HPD homicide Lt. Bill Kato. "While they were fighting, two other men came over and they ganged up on him.

"They got him to the ground, and they stomped the hell out of him."

The suspects left Mehr in front of an apartment building at 329 California Ave. Mehr was taken later to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition and had to be put on life support within 24 hours. Police said Mehr was taken off life support earlier this week.

Police said the three men who beat him are still at large.

Though police said they have witnesses, they are asking the public for more information regarding the beating, which took place sometime between 8:30 and 10 p.m.

"We know that there were a lot of people who were watching the fight," said Kato. "We're asking them to come forward so we can talk to them ... so we can get a better picture of what happened."

Mehr was 5 feet 8 inches tall, 175 pounds, and had brown hair and brown eyes. Police ask that anyone with information on this case call HPD Detective Ted Coons at 529-3053.
