Torey Newlin: Disappeared during a concert after taking a "large dose" of LSD

"We've had some unconfirmed sightings this week," said Charles Newlin, a resident of Austin, Texas. "But we're asking that if people see him that they please stay with him, because he may still be confused."

According to Torey's friends, he walked off at around 8 p.m. wearing nothing but shorts, after taking what Newlin calls a "large dose" of the drug LSD.

"His friends said he was totally incoherent," said Newlin. "He was going around telling people he didn't know who he was."

Earlier this week, Maui police searched the Kaanapali area using dogs while a Maui Fire Department helicopter crew searched by air. Newlin's family also rented their own helicopter and did their own search of West Maui, but with no success.

Newlin says if is son is still alive, he has no shoes, no cash and no identification.

"It's so scary. This is the single worst thing that has happened in my entire life."

Newlin is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes and a pierced tongue. He was last seen wearing white shorts and a white puka-shell necklace.

Anyone with any information about Newlin's whereabouts is asked to call the Maui Police at 244-6400 or the Juvenile Section, which is handling the investigation, at 244-6480.

"Police here have been very compassionate. ... They've done a yeoman's job," said Newlin. "We would have never gotten this kind of interest anywhere in Texas. Police here have done everything they can and more, and I appreciate it."
