Funeral services will be held for police Capt. Alvin Masao Nishimura on Friday at the Star of the Sea Church.

Nishimura, 52, died Feb. 4 at Queen's Medical Center after a two-year battle with leukemia.

During his 29 years on the police force, Nishimura headed the Criminal Intelligence Unit, worked in narcotics/vice, internal affairs, sex crimes, criminal investigation and patrol.

He graduated from Farrington High School and Chaminade University.

Nishimura is survived by wife Cynthia Yip Nishimura, son Jacy, daughter Jamie, parents Frank and Agnes, brother Stanley, sisters Jane Sachiko Umeda and Irene Emiko Yoneji, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m., followed by services at 11:30. Aloha attire is appropriate. The family requests no flowers.

A private memorial will be held at sea.
