A statue of the flag-raising at Iwo Jima that will be placed in a park at the gate to Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe arrived yesterday morning from Boston. Chris Messer, scheduling coordinator for contractor Dick Pacific, stood in the rain at the base's gate while inspecting the statue, which will be used in a Pacific War Memorial monument. "Pretty exciting -- this is the first step!" Messer said. "The good thing about rain today is that it means it won't rain at the dedication in March, right?"
