Chubby Checker,
Yvonne Elliman will share
Blaisdell stage Feb. 17

Star-Bulletin

Dust off those dancing shoes because "The King of the Twist," Chubby Checker, and friends are coming to Hawaii next month.

Checker, Dee Dee Sharp and Hawaii's own Yvonne Elliman will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at Blaisdell Arena. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Blaisdell box office and Ticket Plus outlets.

Checker has sold more than 250 million records worldwide, including the '60s hits "The Twist," "Pony," "Fly" and "Shake." This has placed him in the No. 56 spot in record sales of all time; the only person who has had the same single record go No. 1 in different years, and the only artist to have nine double-sided hit records.

Sharp is responsible for her own dance revolutions with hits like, "Mashed Potato Time," "Do the Bird," "Ride" and "Gravy (for my mashed potatoes)."

Elliman, the first singer from Hawaii to have a No. 1 national hit with "If I Can't Have You," will make her first Hawaii appearance since her sold-out Blaisdell Arena concert in 1979. Her other hits include "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from the rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Love Pains," "Love Me" and "Hello Stranger."

Tickets are $35 for lower level and loge seats, and $25 for upper level. Charge tickets at 526-4400 or buy them online at www.ticketplushawaii.com.
