[THE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF HAWAIIAN LIFE]

art
"There is a new housing development in West Richland, Wash., called Paradise South. My sister had told me to pay specific attention to the street names," reports John Book, who hails from Pauoa. "As I entered, there were streets named Aloha and Diamond Head. Two blocks down, I saw this sign. It's a far cry from the real Kapiolani; in fact, this street here wasn't even a block long, and the house that was on it was halfway done. But it did manage to bring me home for a quick moment."

"The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life in the Universe" is just that: We're looking for evidence of Hawaiiana everywhere but Hawaii.
