A surf camp of their own

Wondering where to send the kids for summer after experiencing the boredom, the phone banter, the unwashed dishes over the Christmas break?

Maui Surfer Girl has a solution for those with girls. Send 'em to surf camp.

For two weeks, the teens are given surf instruction with the notion that the sport not only provides a physical outlet, but offers a positive route to self-awareness.

"Teen wahine are at a crucial stage in their development of self-image and self-confidence," said MSG director and founder Dustin Tester, a former Outward Bound instructor. "We complement the girls' love for the ocean and nature with strong, affirmative coaching to create a positive, supportive environment for personal development."

And the extras are not too shabby.

The retreat will be held at a beachfront facility in Lahaina, and the $2,000 fee includes accommodations in A-frame cabins, meals, daily surf instruction, plus special day activities including morning yoga, Hawaiian arts and crafts, windsurfing, movies, talent shows and campfires.

For more information, call 1 (866) MSG-2002 (674-2002), view its Web site at www.mauisurfergirls.com or e-mail info@mauisurfergirls.com.
