Hundreds visited the Izuma Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii shrine starting at midnight on New Year's Eve to offer prayers of thanks for blessings received in the old year, and to receive blessings for the health and well-being of families and businesses in the new year. They bought good fortune amulets (omamori and ofuda) to hang on walls, and in cars. Kris Yamamoto with her daughter, Kaci, paid a visit to the shrine for good luck.
