A free workshop on the nuts and bolts of lobbying will be held Jan. 5 at the state Capitol auditorium.

Political observer Dan Boylan will lead the workshop, which is open to everyone from lobbying novices to experienced advocates.

State Rep. Noboru Yonamine (D, Pacific Palisades), one of the event's organizers, said this is one of the most popular annual legislative workshops.

Senate President Robert Bunda (D, Wahiawa) and House Speaker Calvin Say (D, Palolo) will discuss the unprecedented three special legislative sessions of 2001 and the impact they may have on lobbying efforts.

Other panelists include Midweek columnist Bob Jones and Bob Watada, executive director of the State Campaign Spending Commission.

To register, call 586-6970, 586-9460 or 586-6520. The workshop is co-sponsored by the state Legislature, the Hawaii Commission on the Status of Women, the Hawaii chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, the Waikiki Health Center, the University of Hawaii School of Social Work and the Hawaii Community Services Council.
