49ers’ Ulbrich out
with ankle injury

Former University of Hawaii standout Jeff Ulbrich of the San Francisco 49ers missed yesterday's 21-0 victory over the Miami Dolphins because of an ankle injury.

It's not known if the starting linebacker will return for next Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jason Elam, Broncos: The place-kicker (University of Hawaii) made field goals of 34, 36 and 45 yards, but he missed an attempt of 45 yards in Denver's 26-23 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He also kicked two extra points.

Olin Kreutz, Bears: The starting center (St. Louis School/University of Washington) and his teammates on the offensive line kept Chicago's running game in high gear yesterday, bulldozing holes for Anthony Thomas (173 yards on 31 carries) in a 27-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kynan Forney, Falcons: The starting guard (Hawaii) and his linemates allowed six sacks on quarterback Chris Chandler in a 41-27 loss to Indianapolis.

Dominic Raiola, Lions: The backup center (St. Louis School/University of Nebraska) was on the field, helping to pave the way for Cory Schlesinger's winning touchdown as Detroit avoided a winless season by beating the Minnesota Vikings 27-24.

Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala, Steelers: The running back (St. Louis School/University of Utah) got his second straight start for the injured Jerome Bettis, and he rushed for 15 yards on nine carries and caught a pass for no yards in Pittsburgh's 26-21 win over Baltimore.

Kimo von Oelhoffen, Steelers: The starting defensive end (Molokai High School/Boise State) made one tackle in Pittsburgh's win.

One player with Hawaii ties, tight end Itula Mili (Kahuku High School/Brigham Young) of the Seattle Seahawks, was used sparingly yesterday, while three players -- defensive linemen Mario Fatafehi (Farrington High School/Kansas State) of the Arizona Cardinals and Ma'a Tanuvasa (Mililani High School/University of Hawaii) of the San Diego Chargers and offensive tackle Adrian Klemm (Hawaii) of the New England Patriots -- are on injured reserve.

Tonight, starting guard Chris Naeole (Kahuku High School/University of Colorado) of the New Orleans Saints plays against backup offensive lineman Kaulana Noa (Honokaa High School/University of Hawaii) of the St. Louis Rams.
