This year's Christmas concert presented by the men of Ho'okena promises to be a homey one, filled with several members of the group's extended musical family.

"We have a couple of guests on the show, including Keali'i Reichel, who's flying in especially from Maui to do this," said group member Horace Dudoit. "He'll be doing three songs with us: 'Merry Christmas Darling,' because we love this song originally sung by Karen Carpenter; an arrangement of 'Testify to Love,' a song Wynonna Judd sang on the television show 'Touched By An Angel'; and 'Malie's Song,' a special song Keali'i wrote for his partner Fred Krauss' late mother.

"Home for the Holidays"

Ho'okena's 2nd annual Christmas concert, featuring Keali'i Reichel, Zanuck Lindsey and Ginai, Nani Dudoit, Kit Ebersbach, Noel Okimoto and Kawaiolaonapukanileo

Where: Hawaii Theatre
When: 6 p.m. Sunday
Admission: $35 general and $25 for seniors 65 and over
Call: 528-0506

"Zanuck Lindsay is back, because we had so much fun playing with him last year, and he'll have his own set with his wife Ginai. Nola Nahulu and her choir Kawaiolaonapukanileo, made up of 16 men and women, will start the show, and we'll join them on their last song."

Kawaiolaonapukanileo specializes in himene, or church hymns, but they'll also be singing some Christmas carols and help out on "Testify to Love."

Ho'okena's hula dancer (and Dudoit's wife) Nani will also be part of the evening's festivities, as well as accompanying musicians Kit Ebersbach and Noel Okimoto.

Dudoit said audiences can expect to hear "a pocketful of songs" from Ho'okena's last seasonal release, "Home for the Holidays," and the group's latest CD, "Treasures."

"In fact, there'll be a lot more songs in the second half of the concert sung in English, which may blow some people's minds," he said.

All this and local radio personality Randy Hudnall as Santa MC!
