HPU baseball team signs 6 recruits

Hawaii Pacific baseball coach Scott Sato signed six players for the 2003 season.

Both were second-team Interscholastic League of Honolulu all-stars and all-state honorable mentions last year.

Chase Nakamura, a first-team Oahu Interscholastic Association West All-Star choice last year with Aiea, will also play for HPU.

Sato picked up three players from Orange Coast College, continuing his relationship with coach John Altobelli. Third baseman Ryan Marcos, outfielder Greg Trimble and pitcher Brent Erickson --all of whom had outstanding freshman seasons last year, according to Sato --have also committed to the Sea Warriors.

The 4- to 6-foot waves were accompanied by strong tradewinds, causing choppy conditions.

The holding period continues through Dec. 17.
