Warriors offensive
line may get
a Kailua flavor

Future Hawaii offensive lines might have quite a bit of representation from Kailua.

Surfrider center Marques Kaonohi has verbally committed to accept a football scholarship from the Warriors.

Kaonohi (6 feet 2, 250 pounds) is a second-team Oahu Interscholastic Association all-star selection. He joins Kailua linemate Samson Satele and Saddleback (Calif.) Junior College quarterback Jason Whieldon as players who have committed to the Warriors in the past week.

Another Surfrider offensive lineman, 6-foot-3, 300-pound Kahai LaCount, was said to be close to signing with Hawaii last night. Kailua's offensive line helped paved the way for the Surfriders to the semifinals of the state tournament.

"One reason I chose Hawaii was to be able play in front of family and friends," Kaonohi said. "And I look forward to playing with Samson and hopefully Kahai."

LaCount said he was hoping to receive offers from Nebraska and Colorado, but Hawaii is still among his top choices.
