The Old Lahaina Luau dancers welcomed Maui Mayor James
"Kimo" Apana to New York City yesterday. The dancers are
in the Big Apple to participate in the 75th annual Macy's
Thanksgiving Day Parade, which will air Thursday on
both NBC and CBS television networks to an estimated
65 million viewers. Apana is in New York to promote
tourism and express the Valley Isle's gratitude for the
work of the firefighters and police officers who helped
rescue people after the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. He said
he and the entertainers with the Old Lahaina Luau were
going to 20 fire and police stations with gift baskets,
lei and fresh flowers. He also plans to present checks
of more than $10,000 to a relief fund. He said he
also intends to watch the parade.
