Fire in the kitchen!

Three Honolulu Fire Department teams will compete in the "HFD Cookoff Challenge," trying to win $1,000 for a favorite charity, as part of Flavors of Fall, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Kahala Mall.

The event, which includes cooking demonstrations, entertainment and food samples from mall restaurants, has been rescheduled from last weekend.

The firefighters' cookoff begins at 11 a.m.

Other highlights: Cookie Corner sponsors hands-on cookie decorating for the first 50 children, 1 p.m.; California Pizza Kitchen cooking demonstration, 2 p.m.



Special events

Vegetarian Thanksgiving Dinner: Vegetarian Society of Hawaii will hold its annual Thanksgiving Eve dinner, Nov. 21 at Govindas Restaurant. The menu includes gluten turkey, nutloaf, baked apples and other traditional side dishes, made vegan. Seatings are at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Call 595-7369.

Holiday Pupus and Entrees: Titus Chan teaches the making of spring rolls, crispy chicken and egg foo young, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Moiliili Community Center. Cost is $16, plus a lab fee of $5. Call 955-1555.

Tasty Healthy Holidays: Dr. Terry Shintani leads a workshop and food-tasting, 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Holistica Health Center in the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki. Shintani, author of "The Hawaii Diet," will talk about ways to make holiday eating healthy, quick and easy. Cost is $20. Call 951-6546.
