Musashimaru scores
second victory

FUKUOKA, Japan (AP) - Hawaii-born yokozuna (grand champion) Musashimaru sent out lower-ranked Tosanoumi for his second straight victory against no defeats Monday, the second day of the 15-day Kyushu Grand Sumo tournament.

Ozeki (champion) Kaio scored his first victory along with sekiwake (junior champion) Kotomitsuki, who won the previous tournament in September.

In the day's final bout, Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani from Hawaii, charged No. 2 maegashira (senior wrestler) Tosanoumi with a series of hand thrusts and sent him out, leaving Tosanoumi at 1-1.

Kaio bulldozed winless No. 2 maegashira Takanowaka from the ring.

Komusubi (junior champion second class) Asashoryu, or Mongolian Dolgorsvren Dagvadrj, overpowered ozeki Musoyama in hand thrusts and sent him out to remain undefeated at 2-0. Musoyama is 1-1.

Sekiwake (junior champion) Tochiazuma lost his balance when being pulled by No. 3 maegashira Dejima, but fought on and forced Dejima out for a second victory against no defeats. Dejima is 1-1.

Sekiwake Kotomitsuki - seeking the promotion to ozeki, sumo's second-highest rank following his first tournament victory in September - pushed down winless No. 3 maegashira Tokitsuumi for his first victory against one defeat.

No. 5 maegashira Kyokutenho, or Mongolian Tsevegnyam Nyamjav, went at winless No. 7 maegashira Tamakasuga with a series of hand thrusts and sent him out for his second victory against no defeats.

No. 9 maegashira Kyokushuzan, or Mongolian Batbayar Davaa, threw down No. 11 maegashira Kitazakura after fighting off Kitazakura's driving attempts at the ring's edge. Kyokushuzan is 2-0 and Kitzakura 1-1.

In the 26-member juryo division, just below the senior makuuchi division, No. 4-ranked Kuniazuma, or Brazilian Vander Ramos, sidestepped to the left and pulled down winless No. 1-ranked Takatoriki for his second straight victory against no defeats.

No. 3-ranked Sentoryu, or American Henry Armstrong Miller, twisted down winless No. 5-ranked Shimotori for his first victory against one defeat.
