Komine preseason
All-American


Nebraska pitcher Shane Komine was one of three selected first team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers. The only two-time All-American in Cornhusker history, Komine compiled a 14-2 record and a 3.35 ERA in a school-record 131.1 innings last season.

The 5-10, 175-pound senior won a school-record and league-best 14 games, while also leading the Big 12 in strikeouts (159) and complete games (seven) en route to conference pitcher-of-the-year honors for the second straight season.

Komine holds every major pitching record in school history, going 31-8 with a 2.99 ERA in his collegiate career. He also holds school records for wins (31), strikeouts (395) and innings pitched (334.1). He was selected in the 19th round by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2001 MLB Draft, but decided to return for his senior season at Nebraska.

Hawaii Football League to hold meeting on Kauai

The Hawaii Football League will hold a league meeting on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Coconut's Restaurant on Kauai. If anyone is interested in having a team in the HFL, attendance is mandatory. For more information, call commissioner Danny Crowell at (808) 877-1546.

Moody falls in quarters in World Junior meet

PHILLIP ISLAND, Australia >> Hawaii's Sean Moody lost to Australia's Mick Fanning in the quarterfinals of the Billabong World Junior Championships surf contest today.

Fanning eventually made it to the final where he lost to fellow Australian Joel Parkinson.

Moody won $1,400 in the event, which features the world's top surfers 20-and-under.

Junior booster club sign-ups on Saturday

Youngsters wishing to join the Hawaii Wahine basketball junior booster club can do so Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. in front of the Stan Sheriff box office.

A table will be set up for this purpose prior to the Wahine exhibition game against the New Zealand Tall Pines that begins at 1 p.m.

The Junior Booster Club is open to those in the eighth grade and below. Those who sign up receive a membership card good for free admission to all home games.

General admission ticket prices for the exhibition are $7 adults, $6 seniors, $4 for children (age 4-17) and UH students.

Former Mililani player earns spot as all-star

Tim Liu, a freshman from Mililani High School, has been named to the all-Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference men's soccer second team.

Liu, a sweeper, started 15 of 16 matches for St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C.

"Tim has been an excellent addition to our program. His skill, presence and ability to read the game make him an outstanding sweeper," SAPC coach Lance Watkins said.
