Regular, exhibition season
basketball tickets on sale



Hawaii men's basketball tickets are now on sale at the Stan Sheriff Center box office and all Ticket Plus outlets.

Box office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 526-4400.

The Rainbows open the season with an exhibition game against the EA Sports West All-Stars on Sunday. Ticket prices for exhibition games are $8 lower level, $6 adult upper level and $4 student upper level.

Regular season lower level seats are $14. Upper level seats are $10 for adults and $7 for students.

Rainbow Classic ticket packages are also on sale. Individual tickets go on sale the week of the tournament.

The Rainbows open the regular season Nov. 16 against Norfolk State in the Nike Tip-Off Tournament.

UH opens the Western Athletic Conference season Dec. 27 against Fresno State -- the team it beat for the WAC Tournament championship last spring.

Wahine tip off against New Zealand team

The Hawaii women's basketball team will play the New Zealand Tall Pines in an exhibition game at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $4 for children, age 4-17, and UH students.

The same prices will be in effect for regular-season games. All seats are general admission this season. Regular-season tickets go on sale Nov. 13 at the Stan Sheriff Center box office, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday except holidays.

Tickets also can be purchased by calling Ticket Plus at 526-4400.

The Wahine open the regular season Nov. 17 against Washington State in the first round of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resorts Classic.

Xcel Pro on hold at Sunset Beach

The Xcel Pro surf contest was put on hold yesterday due to small waves at Sunset Beach.

A northwest swell has been forecasted for later this week.

When the contest resumes, the final two heats of the Round of 64 are scheduled, followed by the Round of 32.

Sunny Garcia, Kalani Robb, Pancho Sullivan, Bruce Irons, Kaipo Jaquias and Larry Rios are among the many Hawaii surfers who have already advanced to the Round of 32 in the Association of Surfing Professionals' World Qualifying Series event.

Moody in Billabong junior quarterfinals

PHILLIP ISLAND, Australia >> Hawaii's Sean Moody advanced to the quarterfinals of the Billabong World Junior Championships over the weekend.

The contest, featuring the top under-20 surfers in the world, was put on hold today due to unfavorable conditions.

Moody goes up against Mick Fanning of Australia in the quarters when the contest resumes.

Punahou finishes ILH season unbeaten

The Punahou Buffanblu completed a perfect 8-0 season by outscoring Iolani 7-4 in the ILH waterpolo championship tournament Friday night at the Punahou pool.

Earlier in the night, Kamehameha beat Pac-Five, 7-4, for third place in the tournament.

High scorers for the Buffanblu were Aviv Grill-Childers (4) and C.J. Smith (2). Iolani was led by Phillip Mendel's two goals.

Patrick Stachel (2) and Kiel Nash (2) led the way for the Warriors, while Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau (4) was the top scorer for Pac-Five.

Hawaii-Hilo's Pilgreen wins player of the week

Hawaii-Hilo sophomore Sara Pilgreen was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week after racking up 30 kills against Montana State-Billings.

Pilgreen was the first Vulcanto reach 30 kills since 1994.

Iolani girls victorious in ILH cross country meet

The Iolani girls varsity cross country team captured the Interscholastic League of Honolulu team championship on Saturday at Kamehameha.

Kristin Shinkawa, Nicole Anderson and Christi Morrissey finished second, third and fourth in the race to help the Raiders total 26 points.

Punahou was second with 47 points, followed by Pac-Five(54).

Maui High School alum earns monthly award

Zach Scott has been named the West Coast Conference men's soccer Player of the Month for October.

Scott, a Maui High School graduate, is a senior defender for Gonzaga University. He helped the Zags post a 3-1-2 record during the month, including shutouts of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo and Portland.

He also scored a hat trick against then 17th-ranked Loyola Marymount Oct. 23.
