UH-Air Force game stays
on a Saturday

Hawaii football fans no longer have to worry about changing plans for this month's Air Force game.

ESPN is not televising the game, meaning kickoff will remain as originally scheduled for 6:05 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24 at Aloha Stadium.

The game would have been moved to Friday, Nov. 23 if ESPN (which has a contract with the Western Athletic Conference) had decided to televise it.

ESPN made its decision after teleconference meetings this week involving the network, the WAC and UH.

ESPN will show the Brigham Young at Hawaii game on Dec. 8.

The UH athletic department was against moving last week's Fresno State game to Friday night because of inconvenience to fans.

But moving the Air Force game up a day would have been less of a problem; Nov. 23 is the day after Thanksgiving, a non-school day and one that many people take off from work.

"It would have been nice, especially after winning on national TV last week," UH athletic director Hugh Yoshida said.

"But we understand there are other considerations and we have another opportunity with the BYU game."

The ESPN and WAC contract calls for four telecasts a year. That number will be met with the current plans, and ESPN said it will show an additional WAC game next year.

"We value our partnership with ESPN, and we have worked together over the past few weeks to come to an arrangement that helps both parties," WAC commissioner Karl Benson said.
