Agbayani wants players


New York Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani is looking for players to join him at the Bon Ami, Konishiki golf tournament at the Ko Olina Resort &Marina Golf Club on Nov. 4.

The tournament is the closing event of the French Festival of Hawaii celebration. Proceeds will benefit Konishiki Kids Foundation, which sponsors a cultural exchange program to Japan for Hawaii students.

Agbayani's foursome will be chosen by random drawing.The single player fee is $250($95 tax-deductible). Corporate sponsorships are available for $2,500 (Yokozuna Grand Champion level) or $1,000 (Ozeki Champion level).

Local celebrities scheduled to participate include Howard Dashefsky, LarryPrice, Kimo Kahoano, Sam Choy and Danny Kalekini.

Kokx tops Kim by 5 shots to win golf tournament

Bobbie Kokx shot a 153 to win the Hawaii State Women's GolfAssociation Neighbor Island Tournament at Waikoloa Beach &Kings.

Kokx fired rounds of 74 and 79. Bev Kim finished five strokes off the pace, followed by Kathy Tsukada at 164.

Suzie Tamashiro finished with the best overall low net, shooting a 140.

Maui'sScott wins honor with soccer hat trick

Zach Scott of Haiku, Maui, was named to Soccer America's men's Team of the Week.

Scott, a senior defender from Maui High School, scored the fifth hat trick in Gonzaga history Sunday as the Bulldogs defeated 17th-ranked Loyola Marymount, 4-1.

All three of Scott's goals came on head shots as did the one goal he tallied as a sophomore and again as a junior.

Soccer clinic, tournament Saturday in Palolo

The Keiki Recreational League of the Hawaii Youth Soccer Association and Smoke-Free Kids & Soccer Hawaii will hold a soccer clinic and tournament Saturday as part of the statewide celebration of "Make a Difference Day."

The fun begins at 9 a.m. at the Palolo Recreation Center when players from Hawaii's Olympic Development Program conduct a clinic for youth players from Palolo, Kalihi and Molokai.

The tournament will follow the clinic and last until noon.
