Web site puts Rainbows
among its best 25


The Rainbows are ranked No. 25 in CollegeInsider.com's preseason Top 25. It marks the first time Hawaii has been in a national poll since the 1997-98 season.

The web site picks Maryland No. 1, followed by Duke, Florida, Kentucky and Illinois. WAC member Fresno State was tabbed at No. 23.

Hawaii, the defending WAC Tournament champion, opens practice tomorrow at the annual Coors Light Midnight Ohana at the Stan Sheriff Center, to which the public is invited.

BYUH water polo wins third straight on the road

The Brigham Young-Hawaii men's water polo team won again yesterday, beating Santa Cruz 13-8 at Pomona, Calif.

Vanja Kalabic scored four goals and added five steals in the win. Craig Allred and Derek Anderson contributed three goals apiece.

On Tuesday, BYUH (7-8) put up 41 goals in two victories. The Seasiders won 21-10 over Occidental and 20-10 over Cal Tech.

Both UH golf squads take ninth in tournaments

Matt Kodama got another top 10 finish for the University of Hawaii golf team yesterday, shooting a 214 to tie for 10th in the Wolf Pack Classic at Genoa, Nev. yesterday.

Norman-Ganin Asao shot a two-day total of 218, good for a tied for 23rd place.

The Warriors finished ninth out of 16 teams with an 833 score. Nevada won the meet with an 842, followed closely by Denver (843) and Washington State (844).

Kodama has led the team in every tournament this season.

The Wahine finished ninth in the Heather Farr Memorial in Broomfield, Colo., led by Melanie Matsumura's 151 score to tie for 12th. Rene Krause fired a 153 to tie for 17th.

Nebraska won the team title by a stroke over Colorado.
