Monarch gowns
on stage

Journey to Hawaii's monarchial past when original garments and accessories that adorned Hawaii's ali'i are presented in "200 Years of Hawaii: The Monarchy Gown and Holoku Collection," taking place Oct. 14 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel's Monarch Room.

Models of Hawaiian ancestry will model gowns worn by Princess Ka'iulani, Princess Miriam Likelike and other ladies of the period. Ray Sasaki will provide commentary.

This will be followed by the premiere of the Mamo Howell fall 2001 line.

Tickets are $40 for the rare showcase presented by World Wings International, Inc., a philanthropic organization whose members are retired Pan Am flight attendants. Proceeds will benefit the St. Francis Hospice and CARE International. Call Liz Kearins at 671-1525.

Bead show at Ward

Forty exhibitors from 14 states will be selling beads made of glass, gold, silver, wood, stone, pewter, antler bone, and more when the Ward Warehouse hosts the "Best Bead Show" tomorrow through Sunday in the 2nd floor Kewalo and Kakaako Conference Rooms of Building D.

Also offered for sale will be glass art, findings and stringing supplies. Funds raised will benefit the National Kidney Foundation.

Show hours are noon to 6 p.m. tomorrow, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission will be free.
