ACT seeking Santa

Auditions are taking place 7:30 p.m. today through Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu, 1822 Keeaumoku St., for Army Community Theatre's production of "Santa Claus Lives in Hawaii."

This family-oriented musical revolves around a 9-year-old named Kimo, whose family is impoverished. His father has gone to the mainland to find work, and neither he nor Santa has visited in two years. Kimo desperately wants his father home, but more immediately wants to get a gift for his mother. To get the gift, he must believe in Santa Claus or join with Loki and Moki, two villainous teens who try to lure him into a life of crime. On Christmas Eve the forces of good and evil meet at the mall.

A subplot revolves around the romance between Santa and Mrs. Claus. The musical is mixed with humor, love, compassion and warmth, sprinkled with villainy, and topped with morality, providing the framework for the melodies composed by Roslyn.

Actors are being sought to play Santa; Mrs. Claus; Melvin the Elf; Kimo and his parents; 10-year-old orphan Poki; 10-year-old Kanamu, his 11-year-old sister and their parents; Loki and Moki, the two 17-year-old bad guys; and chorus.

Performances will take place Dec. 14-16 and 21-23. For information, call 438-4480.
