SEARCHING TO ENSURE SAFETY
Security measures go on display at the airport

DENNIS ODA / DODA@STARBULLETIN.COM
Mark Morris, a dog handler with the K9 Explosive Detection
Unit, let his dog, Nico, sniff out some explosives that were
"planted" in one of the suitcases placed in front of a group
of Honolulu businessmen and elected officials yesterday.
The demonstration was part of a tour of security procedures
at Honolulu Airport. For more on the gathering of officials
held there yesterday.

LOUD AND DEADLY

KEN SAKAMOTO / KSAKAMOTO@STARBULLETIN.COM
It may have been "Multi-Cultural Day" at Our Redeemer
Elementary School yesterday, but that did not mean the
students there had to like everything that was played for
them. Above, Pipe Major Emeritus Larry Coleman of the
Celtic Pipes and Drums of Hawaii did his best to entertain
kindergartners with his bagpipe, but with mixed success.
Incidentally, bagpipes are the only musical instrument
classified as a weapon of war. Napoleon once called a
kilted Scottish highland regiment "women from hell."
