St. Andrew's Cathedral will bless the animals

The invitation from St. Andrew's Cathedral is to bring a beast to church.

The annual blessing of animals at the 10 a.m. liturgy Oct. 7 is linked to the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi.

The invitation requires that creatures be brought on leashes or in cages. Human attendees may also bring stuffed animals.

Other Episcopal churches also hold animal blessings in remembrance of the medieval monk taught about man's relationship with all of Creation and is often depicted preaching to animals and birds. He is the patron saint of animals and ecology.
