Students at Farrington High School are encouraged to live by the school's motto, "Enter to learn, go forth to serve."

Many alumni have decided to give back to the school that had taught them about service to the community. These individuals are members of FACF, the Farrington Alumni and Community Foundation.

With the intent of sending Farrington students to college, FACF handed out $500 worth of scholarships in 1976. However, as each year went by, more scholarships of higher value were given out. In the 2000-2001 school year, 19 seniors were awarded scholarships worth a total of $59,700. One of the bigger scholarships is presented by the Koon Hin Choy Lokahi College Scholarship Program, established in 1993. Choy, Class of '45, donated $250,000 to FACF in support of his scholarship program.

The first recipient of the Koon Hin Choy Lokahi Scholarship was Deryll Ambrocio, Class of '94. Ambrocio received $4,000 a year for five years. He is currently a medical student at the John A. Burns School of Medicine. "FACF has a genuine interest in making a difference in students' education and future," Ambrocio said.

Catherine Cachero, Class of '00, was the first to receive the Wally Tsuha Jr. Scholarship. She is a sophomore at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. This scholarship is now given to two Farrington graduates; each receives $5,000 a year for four years. Tsuha, Class of '61, is chairman, CEO and president of Saturn Electronics and Engineering in Michigan.

Besides scholarships, FACF has made huge contributions toward the improvement of Farrington. The organization has donated $60,000 worth of computers to the Business Department, funded trips for both JROTC and the Hawaiian Club, and bought 50 new uniforms for the school band. FACF has also supported various programs, such as Peacemaking and the Health Academy.

"The foundation would not be where it is today were it not for the generosity of its members," said FACF President David Jeong.
