Hula Bowl to invite
Japanese players

The Hula Bowl Maui All-Star game announced an agreement yesterday with the Kansai and Kantoh Football Associations of Japan to bring all-star players to the 2002 game to be played at Maui's War Memorial Stadium this February.

Three most valuable players from each association will be selected at the end of the Japanese bowl season. They will participate in the game week practices and activities on Maui, though they are not eligible to play in the game.

"Having our friends from Japan come and participate in the week-long activities and practices will be a great learning experience for all the players," Hula Bowl chief executive officer Lenny Klompus said. "We are confident the entire traveling party will be able to take home new knowledge of football and Maui."

Wahine volleyball game moved to Nov. 21

The Hawaii women's volleyball match at Sacramento State that was added on Thursday was moved from Nov. 20 to Nov. 21, head coach Dave Shoji announced yesterday.

The match will be held at 7 p.m. in Sacramento, Calif.

UH football coaches among QB Club speakers

Hawaii coach June Jones will be the headline act at this Monday's Quarterback Club luncheon at the Pagoda International Ballroom.

Joining him are Warriors defensive line coach Vantz Singletary and top triathlete Peter Hursty, who won this year's Tin Man competition. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. with the program set to run from noon to 1 p.m.

Boxing card in Hilo set by commission

The State boxing commission gave tentative approval for local promoter Leon Panoncillo to host a card at the Hilo Civic Auditorium on the Big Island on Oct. 12.

Plans call for several amateur bouts on the undercard. For more information, call 586-2701.

Outrigger canoe race set for tomorrow

The 15th annual Ko Olina Resort and Marina Skippy Kamakawiwo'ole men's international Outrigger canoe race will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Maunalua Bay.

Nine-man crews will take part in the 32-mile race from Maunalua Bay in East Oahu to Ko Olina Marina. Between 50 to 60 team are expected to compete in this event.
