HPD auction to showcase collection of 2-wheelers

Bicycles and mopeds in police custody will be auctioned this Saturday.

Items can be viewed beginning at 8 a.m. and the auction will begin at 9 a.m. in the parking lot at South Hotel and Kealamakai streets behind Honolulu Police Department headquarters.

Bikes and mopeds will be sold as-is, on a cash-only basis and must be picked up at time of sale, the HPD said.

Items will be sold without warranties and guarantees and all sales are final.

People who think they might own one of the bikes or mopeds can examine the items the day of the auction and claim them by presenting proper proof of ownership, the HPD said.

WAIKIKI

Kidnap suspect fired on and later turns himself in

A man whom police fired upon in Waikiki earlier this week surrendered yesterday.

Police said on Monday the 33-year-old suspect picked up the 22-year-old woman who police describe as a known prostitute near the corner of Kaiulani and Kuhio Avenues at about 1:45 a.m. The truck the suspect was driving then ran a red light and started speeding, according to police.

Police said the woman began to fight with the driver to get out of the truck and managed to take the vehicle out of gear and step on the brake. When the truck stopped police said an officer approached the driver and ordered him to show his hands.

Police said the driver refused and began to reach for an object. At the same time the woman stepped out of the truck and told the officer that the driver had tried to kidnap her, police said.

The officer fired several shots at the driver as he fled mauka on Kapahulu Avenue, police said. The suspect was later seen in the Nuuanu area where, according to police, he drove toward another police officer. The suspect later turned himself in at the Kaneohe Police Station where he was arrested for kidnapping and reckless endangering.
