NEW JOBS

>> Francis D. Fraher has been named treasurer at The Queen's Health Systems. Kanoe Margol was named assistant treasurer. Fraher most recently served as director of accounting at Straub Clinic and Hospital. Margol has been employed at Queen's since 1991. Both are certified public accountants.

>> David W. Thomas has been named vice chairman and head of retail banking at Bank of Hawaii and its parent company Pacific Century Financial Corp. He joins the bank from a financial institution in Princeton, N.J.

>> Christopher J. Benjamin has been named director of corporate development and planning at Alexander and Baldwin Inc. Benjamin was previously employed as vice president at ChannelPoint Inc.

>> Royce F. Sonnenberg has been named vice president of City Bank's new investment services division. Sonnenberg most recently was manager of the private client services department at Pacific Century Trust.

>> Debbie L. Iizuka has been named supervisor of the commercial lines department at Finance Insurance Ltd. Iizuka most recently served as underwriting manager at Baptiste Insurance Group Inc. 

>> Travis Kono has been named front office manager at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. He will oversee day-to-day operations at the hotel's front desk. In addition, Dennis Maher, Evelyn Madamba, Marivic Cabrera and Darleen Ferredino were named to positions at the hotel. Maher, who will serve as chief engineer, has been with Aston since 1998. He is a certified engineering operations executive by the American Hotel Motel Association. Madamba was named executive housekeeper. She has more than 13 years of hospitality experience, serving most recently as executive assistant housekeeper at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort and Spa. Cabrera was named reservations manager at the hotel. Ferredino, who joins the Aston Waikiki Beach as an administrative assistant, comes to Hawaii after working as an administrative assistant in Pennsylvania.

>> Darlene E. Canto, Laura Lynn Paea and Susanne M. Zike have been named senior living counselors at Kahala Nui retirement community. Canto, Paea and Zike will serve as the marketing staff at Kahala Nui. Canto, a 26-year veteran of sales and operations, most recently served as Hawaii sales director at the Ramada Inn at Union Square in California. Paea was formerly with The Ponds at Punaluu Assisted Living Community. Zike, who has more than 30 years of sales experience, was employed as a sales representative at Nohea Gallery in the Kahala Mandarin Hotel.

>> Marriott Resorts Hawaii has hired Angela White onto its group sales team. White, who will be based in Austin, Tex., will be responsible for sales and booking group business within the Southwest territory. She most recently served as director of Marriott's national accounts for the Southwest market, as well as senior account executive and regional director of state association sales for the western region and senior sales manager at the Austin Marriott.

>> Stu Glauberman has been named staff vice president of corporate communications at Aloha Airlines. He most recently served as vice president of the travel and tourism division at McNeil Wilson Communications Inc.

PROMOTIONS

>> Sherri Yim has been named senior vice president and controller at Central Pacific Bank. She will be responsible for the oversight of all financial management and accounting functions for CPB Inc., CPB and their affiliate organizations. Yim previously served as vice president and controller at CPB.

>> Amy Rice has been named vice president of engineering and construction for Hokulia, a 1,550-acre planned golf community on the Big Island. Rice, who joined Hokulia in August 2000, was previously self-employed as the operator of Rice Engineering Inc. She has more than 12 years of experience in project management.

ON THE BOARD

>> Craig Washofsky and Don Ocvirk have been named to key positions for the Eighth Annual Building Industry Association Home Building and Remodeling Show. The two will serve as 2002 chairman and advertising and marketing committee chairman, respectively. Washofsky is employed at Servco Appliance and Electronics. Ocvirk is assistant vice president of special events at First Hawaiian Bank. The 2002 BIA show will take place Jan. 31 through Feb. 3, 2002.

RECOGNITION

>> HGEA Executive Director Russell Okata has received the Art Takei Award for Leadership from the Asian Pacific American Alliance of the AFL-CIO. Okata was presented with the award for his commitment and work at HGEA, to APALA and to Hawaii's labor movement. In addition, senators Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka along with representatives Patsy Mink and Neil Abercrombie were presented with special recognition awards during the APALA's 6th Biennial National Convention last month. 

>> Hawaii Legal Support Professionals member Iris I.J. Lock has received PLS certification from the National Association for Legal Professionals. In order to receive the advanced certification, Lock successfully completed a four-part examination in March 2001 covering various topics. Since 1993, only 30 individuals have passed the PLS exam in Hawaii. Linda Coloma and Lorna M. Seguancia were awarded PLS certification in September 2000.

HLSP member Karen L. Muennig received ALS certification in March 2001. Muennig successfully completed the ALS examination and the Hawaii State Bar Association's Basic Legal Training Course in order to obtain the basic certification for legal professionals. Julia A. Campbell, Linda Fitzgerald, Alda Keomaka, Malia Sasaki and Takako Kimura were awarded ALS certification after completing the necessary requirements in September 2000. Approximately 150 people in Hawaii have received ALS certification since 1994.
