Hawaii's Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong advanced in yesterday's Goodwill Games in an injury forfeit over Canada's John Child and Mark Heese. Their next match will be against fifth-seeded Emanuel Rego and Par Ferreira of Brazil.

Metzger and Wong are on something of a hot streak. They have won their last two Association Volleyball Professionals tournaments, in Santa Barbara, Calif., and the Michelob Light Manhattan Beach Open.

Hawaii's Own

Mike Fetters, Pirates: The Iolani graduate did not appear in Pittsburgh's 9-8 loss to Milwaukee. Mike Fetters, who led Los Angeles in holds when he was traded July 31, has earned saves in his first five opportunities with the Pirates. But that's not the role he expected in Pittsburgh. "I think I'm best suited to be a set-up guy," he said, "but in this team's situation right now my role is closer and I'm going to do the best I can while they let me do it."

Benny Agbayani, Mets: The St. Louis and Hawaii Pacific alumnus was back in the leadoff spot for the first time since Aug. 14, and responded by going 2-for-3 with a pair of walks in New York's 7-5 win over the contending Phillies.

Chris Truby, Astros: The Damien product sat out of his third straight game in Houston's 6-2 win over the Reds yesterday. He is hitless in six at-bats since rejoining the Astros Aug. 19, striking out once.
