WAC volleyball tourney
tickets on sale Sept. 1

Tickets for the 2001 Western Athletic Conference volleyball tournament go on sale to the public on Sept. 1. The tournament will be held at the Event Center on the campus of San Jose State.

Ticket prices are $30 for adults, and $15 for children and students for an all-session pass (nine matches). All seats are reserved. For more information, call 1-408-924-7589.

Mo'ikeha Canoe Race set for South Kohala

The annual Mo'ikeha Cup Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Race, which honors Hawaii's cultural traditions and ancient skills in sailing, paddling, navigating and seamanship, takes place tomorrow as part of the Aloha Festivals Events on the island of Hawaii.

Three shoreline courses are set for the race. The locations for this year's events were picked for their rich history and cultural significance on the Kohala coast. For more information, call: (808) 889-0640.

UH tennis players named Academic All-Americans

Amandeep Singh and Francisco Brignole were named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I All-America team. Singh has a 3.75 GPA and Brignole carries a 4.0.

Singh, the Warrior's team captain, is a resident of Amristar, Punjab, India and Brignole is from Bahia Bianca, Argentina.

Souza and Toth to speak at Quarterback Club

Kamehameha football coach Kanani Souza and University of Hawaii athletic trainer Melody Toth are among the featured speakers at Monday's Quarterback Club luncheon.

Also scheduled to speak are Honolulu Advertiser sports editor Curtis Murayama and K5 general manager John Fink.

The public is invited to attend the lunch at the Pagoda International Ballroom, which starts at 11:30 a.m. The buffet is $7. For more information, call Al Minn at 261-5143.

Hawaii's Own

Benny Agbayani, Mets: The St. Louis and Hawaii Pacific alumnus did not play in New York's 4-3 win over San Francisco.

Mike Fetters, Pirates: The Iolani graduate did not pitch in Pittsburgh's 5-1 loss to Houston.

Chris Truby, Astros: The former Damien standout went 0-for-4 in his first start since being recalled from Triple-A New Orleans last week. Houston beat Pittsburgh 5-1.
