Surging CB Bancshares
leads the way

City Bank parent CB Bancshares Inc., whose stock rose the last four days, climbed 4.96 percent this week to top the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index. While the Fed's rate cut may have factored in the gain, the quarter-percentage point reduction didn't help the other Hawaii banks.

Bank of Hawaii parent Pacific Century Financial Corp. fell 3.39 percent and Central Pacific Bank parent CPB Inc. lost 6.63 percent. First Hawaiian Bank parent BancWest Corp, awaiting the close of its merger, was unchanged.
