Ex-air traffic controller has court date postponed

Former Maui air traffic controller Rick Lee Davis, who confessed to robbing as many as nine banks in the San Francisco area, had his latest court appearance postponed until Monday.

Attorneys in the case asked for the extension yesterday at Davis' appearance in U.S. District Court in Oakland, court clerk Kelly Collins said.

Davis, 43, has said he needed money so that his family would not know he was struggling financially.

He was arrested Aug. 3 after allegedly robbing a Bank of America branch in Concord, Calif., of $3,199.

Police said Davis confessed to the Concord robbery and at least eight others.

Davis worked as an air traffic controller in Kahului from 1988 until 1999, when he began working at the San Francisco International Airport.

Unions claim agreement with Liliha hospital

The Hawaii Teamsters and Allied Workers Local 996 declared a tentative agreement early yesterday with St. Francis Medical Center at Liliha.

The union represents 700 St. Francis employees who work at the hospital, dialysis and hospice facilities across the state.

Local 996 President Mel Kahele said the next step would be to schedule meetings with members to discuss details of the agreement and to take a ratification vote.

St. Francis Vice President Maggie Jarrett said the hospital could not comment on the tentative agreement until it is ratified.

The Teamsters are continuing talks with Kapiolani Medical Center.
