Hawaii man and his son
killed while in Maine

Thomas Miles and son David were
heading to their summer home

Associated Press

CANTON, Maine >> A Hawaii man and his son were killed in a head-on collision in Maine on Tuesday. Thomas Miles, 66, of Kamuela on the Big Island and his 39-year-old son David, of Austin, Texas, were headed to their summer home along Route 108 when the accident happened.

Their vehicle was struck by another, driven by 18-year-old Travis Wade of Turner, according to Maine State Police.

The father and son had flown into Manchester, N.H., earlier in the day and were driving to Rangeley Plantation when the accident happened, according to Stephen McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department.

Wade apparently fell asleep shortly before midnight, and his car veered into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into the other vehicle driven by David Miles, McCausland said.

David Miles was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he died. Thomas Miles was killed instantly in the accident.

Wade was treated and released from Rumford Hospital.
