Frank Ryder, 18, wins
praise for dedication

The skin of Frank Ryder IV's palm was torn off July 6 after being caught in the press while the Star-Bulletin was being printed at Midweek Printing Inc. He was rushed to Castle Hospital, then to Queen's, where doctors stitched the skin back on his hand. When Frank, 18, came out of the anesthesia, he immediately asked, "Did the edition get out?" Dick and Monene Bradley's daughter Allison married Matthew Reeder in Napa Valley last Saturday. The Bradleys are co-owners of Compadres. Allison's sister Shannon Yates, brother-in-law Reyn Yates, Meghan Gough and Christy Davis were in the wedding. The women are Punahou grads. People from Hawaii or with isle links among the 500 guests were: Rick and Nancy Enos, Mary Ann Holt, Patrick Terrail, Todd Saunders, Matt Corboy, Mike and Sigi McCormack, Gulab and Indru Watumull, Paul and Ricki Cassidy, Rick and Susie Fried, Sid and Diana Spencer, Brad and Elise Yates, Tom and Robin Rohr, Ken and Shanaugh Robin, Jim and Puchi Romig, and Puchi's daughters Heidi and Malia Emerson, and Elissa Josephsohn, who flew in leis and marked her birthday the same day ...

Kids will love 'Cinderella'

Diamond Head Theatre's repeat of "Cinderella" is a delight. Children will particularly love it. After Sunday's matinee, the principals remained on stage following much applause so little kids could visit with them. The beautiful Fairy Godmother, portrayed so well by Devon Guard, was a big favorite with the kids. So was the lovely Cinderella, played by Tara Melia Hunt, who was excellent. The King, Larry Paxton, stole the first part of the show with his comic antics. Queen Stefanie Smart, Prince Jason D. Wells, Stepmother Lisa Konove and the Stepmother's sassy daughters, played by Euphrosyne Rushforth and Stacey Pulmano, were strong. Musical director Emmett Yoshioka rearranged the score to fit the eight-piece orchestra that sounded quite good for a small group. The musical runs through July 22 ...

Beauty at Don Ho's

Don Ho's Island Grill was full of beauty and first-class Hawaiian music and hula Thursday as the Mrs. Hawaii post party was held at the Aloha Tower spot. Reigning Mrs. Hawaii Sydney Fernandez Fasi and other women in the contest attended. Lincoln Whang of Salon Consultants International and Hairscapes owner Lloyd Horibe tossed the bash. Na Kama, a trio headed for stardom, performed and backed a number of singers and dancers including: Renee Ane, Pohai Au, Kanani Kaulu and Chay Nihipali. Chay brought four of her hula students ranging in age from 11 to 13 who were a big hit. Kuhilani Nishimura, Napualani Furtado, Leialohalani Lemassa and Keola Kam had the crowd yelling for more ...

Mihana Souza is back from Europe and is with Puamana at Ho's on Mondays. She has her solo gig at Duc's Bistro Thursdays ... More than 100 works of art will be on display at the Academy of Arts Artists of Hawai'i show, opening Thursday ... Todd Wells is the new executive chef for Ruth's Chris Steak House in Restaurant Row ...
