Corrections and clarifications

>> The police officer in a 1965 Star-Bulletin file photo was John Dickson. A caption on a June 26 story on page A-8 misidentified the officer.

>> A sentence in an A-1 story Monday on the 2002 race for the Democratic nomination for governor should have read: "The winner will likely go on to face Republican Linda Lingle in the general election."

>> The 2001 Hawaii International Jazz Festival will get $10,000 in Hawaii Tourism Authority funding. The "Hana Hou!" Hawaiian music series funded by HTA is organized by the Hawaii Theatre. Incorrect information appeared in a Hawaii Inc. story Thursday.

>> Termidor has remained effective in University of Hawaii test sites for three years, not five as described in a story that ran in Friday's Today section. The "transfer effect" of the pesticide between termites has been documented in some research but not so far at UH, which is setting up field trials to determine if this happens.

>> The Rev. Stephen Vanden Eynde, who participated in the Kewalo Holy Ghost festival Sunday, was incorrectly identified in a photo caption Monday.

Police continue to look for reason in car crash

WAILUKU >> An autopsy shows the driver involved in a double traffic fatality on Maui didn't have a heart attack at the time of the crash.

Frank Alvarez, 50, died of injuries sustained when the car he was driving crossed the center line on Hana Highway near Hansen Road and struck a multipurpose vehicle, acting Police Sgt. Ricky Uedoi said yesterday.

Also killed in the Friday night crash was Alvarez's 41-year-old wife, Mona.

Alvarez, a self-employed mechanic, had some heart problems, according to his family.
