Big Island under
the camera

More than 305 million eyeballs around the world will soon witness the fruits of the film industry's facilitation.

The Korean Broadcasting System, VOX TV from Germany and a crew from Chicago-based Towers Productions, have been on Big Island Film Commissioner Marilyn Killeri's turf.

KBS, the largest network in Korea, has been tagging along with Mayor Harry Kim for an hour-long documentary

Best known prior to the election as the island's civil defense administrator, it may be news to some that for many years Kim's family owned and operated the former Keaau Kim Chee Inc.

In Honolulu, KBFD-TV carries KBS programming, but a Hawaii airing is not yet scheduled.

Towers Productions is also to tape a show for the Weather Channel. Meanwhile, The Weather Channel Web site, (www.weather.com), is promoting "an exclusive 'Atmospheres' adventure in Hawaii," in which the winner will become part of the TV production crew and appear in an episode of the show Sept. 26.

German viewers of VOX TV will see a Hawaii travelogue during an upcoming Sunday broadcast of the "Voxtours" TV show. The VOX crew will also be traveling to other islands, Killeri said.

Hoku online

The national recording industry doesn't care that local girl Hoku Ho did not win a Na Hoku Hanohano award from the Hawaii Academy of Recording Artists.

Her label, Geffen Records, is pushing ahead with promotion of her latest single.

Don Ho's daughter and her new CD single "Perfect Day" are featured in an ad on the home page of All Access, (http://www1.allaccess.com), a radio and record industry Web site.

The song is at least her second offering from a soundtrack -- in this case, from the movie "Legally Blonde" to open July 13. The soundtrack hits the racks July 10.

Meanwhile, the song is "getting spins" on stations such as KIIS FM in Los Angeles, KHTS in San Diego, and B97 in New Orleans.
