Kai Barger of Haiku, Dustin Payne of Lahaina and Kyle Ramey of Koloa will be joining Travis Beckmann of Waialua in today's final of the explorer menehune division.

O'Reilly transfers away from UH football

Running back Colin O'Reilly has transferred from the University of Hawaii to Southern Illinois.

O'Reilly redshirted in his first season and will have four seasons of eligibility.

McInnis joins UH track as assistant coach

Andrew McInnis was named an assistant women's track and field coach at the University of Hawaii yesterday.

McInnis, 47, coached for the Canadian national team from 1979 to 2000, serving on the staff for four Olympic Games. He was head coach of the 1996 Canadian Olympic team.

He was also an assistant at Louisiana State from 1984 to 1987, helping the LSU women to the indoor and outdoor NCAA championships in 1987.

"He and I have known each other 10 years and worked together several times," UH head coach Carmyn James said. "He's strong in all areas: throws, jumps, sprints, distance. He's also very skilled with camps and clinics, so I think he can have a big impact on the overall local track and field scene."

Hawaii's own

Benny Agbayani, Mets: The St. Louis and Hawaii Pacific alumnus was not on manager Bobby Valentine's lineup card before the team's game with Atlanta yesterday, but he got the start when Valentine and Darryl Hamilton got into the argument during a pregame meeting. Hamilton refused to play and asked for his release while Agbayani started in left field and went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Agbayani left the game for a pinch runner after earning a five-pitch walk off Kerry Ligtenberg in the eighth inning.

Jay Spurgeon, Orioles: The former University of Hawaii pitcher was told he would start yesterday if Josh Towers' injured right hand would not allow him to pitch. Towers pitched though, shutting out the White Sox for seven innings.

Mike Fetters, Dodgers: The Iolani School product is still on the 15-day disabled list and is eligible to come off July 5. This is the seventh time he's gone on the DL in his 13-year career.
