New angle on golf
coverage is skewed

The use of high technology achieved a new low over the weekend on ABC-TV. In its coverage of the PGA Buick Classic, miniature cameras were placed pointing up from the bottoms of holes, from which sports fans were subjected to watching the pros picking up their golf balls after making their putts.

In previous weeks, the little cameras were placed inside the edge of sand traps, providing a different perspective of players hitting their bunker shots -- of some redeeming value. From the cameras' most recent placement, commentators were reduced to talking about how each of the golfers seemed to pick up the ball using the thumb and the index and middle fingers.
