Oahu's two outrigger canoe associations were on opposite sides of the island yesterday.

The outcomes of the two regattas were at opposite ends of the spectrum.

The Hui Wa'a Association regatta came down to the final event, while the Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association's regatta was a runaway almost from the start.

At Keehi Lagoon, Lokahi Canoe Club won the final race of the day to pull out a 76-75 win over rival Kaneohe in the AA Division (18-plus crews).

The victory in the men's masters-35 was worth five points to the Ala Wai-based club. Kaneohe, which led 72-71 going into the last race, finished third in the 1-mile event to earn three points.

The A Division title went to Koa Kai with 32 points to 29 points by Ka Mo'i.

The next Hui Wa'a race is Sunday at Maili Beach.

At Waimanalo, Lanikai won five of the first eight event -- 15 overall -- to finish with 99 points. Hui Nalu was a distant second at 72.

The A Division title went to Keahiakahoe with 13 points. Waikiki Surf was second at 12.

OHCRA's next event is the Macfarlane Fourth of July regatta at Waikiki Beach.
