A taste of the islands

Residents turn out by the thousands
to eat for a good cause

The 10th annual Taste of Honolulu, held at Skygate Park
over the weekend, drew thousands of people eager to
sample treats from more than 15 island restaurants. Among
them was Emi Estalilla, above, who enjoyed desserts
being fed to her by her grandpa, George Shimomura.

Ciao Mein restaurant cooks Dale Hanaoka, in foreground,
and Kevin Masuda prepared dishes in their booth. The
event drew 50,000 people and raised $260,000. Net
proceeds from the event will go to Easter Seals Hawaii.
