Microsoft, e-business
magazine link up in isles

Hawaii gets its formal introduction to the new Microsoft Office XP software Tuesday at the Hawaii Convention Center in a free event open to the public.

It is targeted, however, "to the business executive that will be deploying it," according to Lincoln Jacobe, chief executive officer of PacificNews.Net and co-producer of the B2B Hi-tech Cafe, to be staged in conjunction with the XP roll-out.

PNN is a 5-year-old, high-tech, e-business magazine which appears online at www.pacificnews.net, and it also has a high-tech events division.

Jacobe said attendees of previous Microsoft events in Hawaii wanted an "exchange of information between the solution providers and the end user," hence the birth of the B2B Hi-tech Cafe.

Michelle Kennedy, president of Media Group of the Pacific, said "a lot of people wanted to talk to vendors so they can make purchases right there."

Organizers of the B2B Hi-tech Cafe expect between 1,000 and 2,000 people at the convention center.

Some of those will be educators gathering for a special luncheon, Kennedy said.

Another venture the companies are involved in, is the e-Biz awards, which Jacobe plans to present annually.

This first year, awards will be presented in 11 categories.

PNN's dozen-member editorial board will judge entries and announce winners in the fall.

Media Group of the Pacific and PNN are "sister companies," said Kennedy, formerly an executive with TeraBiz.

Jacobe is vice president of Media Group, and is in negotiations to start up another company.
