Micah Kroeger's first season as Kamehameha Schools' boys basketball coach will also be his last.

Kamehameha principal Anthony Ramos confirmed yesterday that Kroeger's term as head of the school's boys basketball program will not be renewed for next season. He would not comment on the reasons for the decision.

Kroeger was hired to lead the program last September and guided the Warriors to an 8-6 record in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu.

He was placed on administrative leave during the season after parents of some players lodged complaints with the school's administration.

Kroeger missed the Warriors' regular season finale, but returned to coach the team in its two ILH tournament games.

The Warriors fell one win short of qualifying for the state tournament.

Hawaii's own

Benny Agbayani, Mets: The St. Louis and Hawaii Pacific alumnus missed his third straight game with back spasms. He participated in pregame drills and is day-to-day.

Mike Fetters, Dodgers: The Iolani graduate suffered his first loss of the season, 10-9 to Houston. Fetters entered with the score tied to start the bottom of the ninth. He staked leadoff batter Richard Hidalgo to a 2-0 count before the Astros outfielder hit his 10th homer of the season to win the game.

"I was behind two balls and I had to throw a strike down the middle and when you throw over the plate to big league hitter, they are going to hit it a long way," Fetters said.
