Kayaker Gardiner
wins Molokai challenge

His winning time is nearly
2 minutes ahead of the
second-place finisher

Australian Dean Gardiner, above, overall winner of
yesterday's Eyecatcher Molokai Challenge, paddles
under the Kalanianaole Highway bridge at the entrance
to Kuapa Pond on his way to the finish line at Hawaii
Kai Towne Center. Below, Gardiner, now an eight-time
winner of the kayak and canoe race, celebrated his
victory at the finish line. Gardiner was almost two
minutes ahead of the second-place finisher,
Lewis Laughlin. See story in Sports.
