POIPU, Kauai >> Punahou School, led by 1999 singles champion Ikaika Jobe, remained on track to win its 11th straight boys' championship as the Carlsmith Ball HHSAA State Tennis Championship completed semifinal action yesterday on the Garden Isle.

The Buffanblu have nine points to Kealakehe's four going into tomorrow's finals at the Punahou courts. All finals are set for 4:30 p.m.

Jobe, who played on the mainland last spring, will face Kamehameha's Tyler Black for the title. The sixth-seeded Black upset No. 2 Anthony Ilagan of Farrington in the quarterfinals, 8-4, and No. 3 Dru Kanuha from Kealakehe, 9-8 (5).

The two top seeds in boys doubles also advanced. The No. 1 team of Bucky Jencks-Chris Iwamura will face No. 2 Nainoa Depontes-Michael Chan of Kealakehe.

In girls play, three-time defending champion Iolani led the team standings with eight points to three for Baldwin. The Raiders have top seed Tracie Ann Chong in the final for the second straight year; she finished second last season.

Chong defeated Mililani's Krystal Hangai, 8-3, in yesterday's semifinal. Chong will face No. 3 seed Michelle Pautler of Hawaii Prep; Pautler upset second-seeded Mariana Lee of Iolani, 8-6, in the semifinal.

In girls doubles, the top-seeded sister combo of Janalle and Kim Kaloi from Kamehameha will take on No. 3 seed Noelle Lee-Miclynn Crail. Lee-Crail upset the No. 2 team of Tiana Lum-Tucker and Kareen Konishi of Kauai, 8-3.
