National honors
for local chapter

The Hawaii Chapter of the Certified Commercial Investment Members -- CCIM -- has been awarded the President's Cup for 2000 by the National CCIM Council.

C. Mark Ambard, president of commercial real estate outfit Ambard & Co., was chapter president for the year.

He flew to Denver to attend a council meeting and accept the honor.

He said the award was developed to provide recognition of various efforts by local chapters such as innovation, program development, membership recruitment and retention, education events, forecasting competitions, publications, marketing programs, and fund-raisers.

A committee of four to five former chapter presidents judge award submittals on factors such as content, organization and presentation, for which Ambard credited CCIM administrator Kaye Lorraine.

Ambard said, she did a brilliant job of putting the presentation together.

"We were excited Hawaii got noticed," he said, "we have to make a big noise for that. Also our market hasn't been that exciting, so we had to maintain our presence in other ways."

He wasn't thrilled, however, that it snowed in Denver during his trip there May 1-3, considering all he'd packed were aloha shirts and slacks.

The Hawaii chapter of CCIM, which he quipped does not stand for "799 in Roman numerals," is one of 150 across the U.S., and one of 10 which made presentations for the national award.

Ambard said one of the projects the chapter did last year which factored into the honor, was development of more standard forms for use by commercial Realtors.

"Our chapter hired Cades Schutte last year to try to gain continuity (of five forms) and we put them on CD and they're offered for sale," he said. There's also a course on the fundamentals of filling in the forms, he said.

Ambard said the $500 included in the award will be put back into the chapter to fund programs and scholarships.
